This piece, by Vincent Van Gogh, painted in May of 1890, was made along with another piece of irises and 2 more of roses. These pieces were made while Van Gogh was staying at the Saint-Rémy mental hospital, not long before he checked himself out. These are the only pieces Van Gogh made during his 2-year stay.

Vincent  Van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853, as the eldest son of a Dutch Reformed minister and a bookseller's daughter. He pursued many things before deciding to dedicate himself to art at the age of 27. He was largely self-taught and focused on copying prints in black and white before he received formal instruction from his cousin Anton Mauve, a leading Hague School Artist. In lat 1885 he moved to the Netherlands to study at the Antwerp Academy in Belgium.

Van Gogh was struggling with mental breaks and, fearing another one, decided to admit himself to the mental hospital, there he spent roughly 2 years.

I made this piece by slab building mainly. Though I did not attach one of the flowers correctly. I have thus far not decided wether I want to put a clear glaze over it, because I want to preserve the paint texture. This piece interested me because of it's story
